Before Rupert Thomson found success as an author, he worked as an advertising copywriter and I was lucky enough to work with him at FCB.
He had left advertising and already published a few successful novels when he asked me to work on a cover for his latest book, “The Insult”.
At the beginning of the book, our narrator is shot and wakes up blind. Then he’s not so sure he is actually blind as he sees things (one of the main themes of the book). The last thing he actually saw before he lost his sight was tomatoes falling.
Rupert Thomson is a fine and highly inventive writer. All his books are interesting, beautifully written and very different from each other.
